First Time For Everything

Within the last week I've experienced some firsts. Some of which I've really enjoyed and some of which I would never like to experience again.

The enjoyable experiences:

I bungee jumped for the first time, and it was over the Nile so that was pretty sweet! Pictures and video coming at a later time.

I went white water rafting, something I've always wanted to do but have not have had the opportunity to do. We went through class II-V rapids. They had class VI rapids but they don't take people over those, so we had to walk around them. On our first class V a wave took me with it; probably one of the scariest, if not the scariest experiences of my life. But I loved ever moment of white water rafting and I can't wait to do it again, maybe even one day back on the Nile.

The Not so enjoyable experience:

I got extremely sick for the first time since being gone; 4 malaria parasites, typhoid and an amoeba. Because of all this I got to experience my first overnight experience in a hospital. And not just for 1 night but for 2 nights. When I went into the hospital to get tested I was informed I had malaria and my blood pressure was 80/50 and they recommended I get an IV, but I didn't want to stay in the hospital I wanted to go back to my bed so I refused it. Came home, took my pills, and immediately threw up. I could not keep any fluids down for the afternoon and around 5 decided I should go to the hospital and thus started the road to recovery.

Following the Leader

This blog was started last month. And I'm just getting around to finishing it.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord's work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other.

One thing I've learned a lot over the course of the trip is that to be a good leader you have to be able to follow. I don't know if I ever mentioned it but Mosaic had a small change; Bethany was placed as team leader. This has been really good for our team and it's been so great to see God in the process of redeeming our team!

All of my life I've been a leader and I never knew until coming on this trip how hard it is for me to follow, I find it a lot easier to lead than to follow, but God has been teaching me that if I want to be a good leader I have to follow. The first several months as Mosaic struggled I got really frustrated a lot about leadership styles, and often found myself comparing the way I lead to the way I was being lead. I also realized that I had put limits on God, and as we all know God doesn't allow that.

At training camp I took the back seat because I didn't want to lead a team, and I'm very thankful that he didn't feel I needed to lead, but I also told Him that I had to have a team leader older than me. Well God granted that as well but in December God took that away from me, and for that I'm extremely grateful! God has taken that pride of thinking that people younger than me can't lead well and made me rely on his will. I'm very thankful that Bethany is our leader and I'm learning so much about what it is to be a good leader by taking a back seat and following. By placing Bethany as a leader it's made me realize that God's will is better than my will. The first several months were pretty awful for our team and we were all extremely excited about a change when we were in Bulgaria, but as we all know we had no change and that left our team in complete turmoil. We changed our name in hopes that we would begin new, but I don't think the process of redeeming our team started until the end of Israel when Bethany was placed as leader.

This year as hard as it's been for me to follow I'm learning a lot about being a good leader by following. I think this is one thing that God wanted to teach me. So for all of you natural leaders out there, if you really want to be a good leader, take a step back and learn how to follow!

Love

This was written last month while in Uganda.

So I'm preparing for the first sermon I have to give and God has placed Mark 12:28-34 and Matthew 22:34-40 which talks about the Greatest commandment; love. Mark 12:28-31 reads; One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, se he asked, "Of all the commandments, with is the most important?" Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: "Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one, and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. The second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is greater than these."

Jesus referenced Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Leviticus 19:18. These two statements sum up all the commandments. Love God and Love people! If we truly love God and our neighbor we will naturally keep all the other commandments.

Being on this trip has made me realize that I don't always Love. Love is not what comes naturally. Love is defined in 1 Corinthians 13; Love is patient, and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand it's own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

BUT

How do you Love God and Love people?

Jesus should be our example. Scripture teaches us a lot about love, and what Jesus said about love.

The Gospels teaches us that:

John 3:16 God loves us

God's love is not self-centered. God sets the pattern for true love here. When you love someone dearly you are willing to give freely to the point of self-sacrifice. God gave his only Son so we could have life.

Matthew 22:37 We are to love God

If we love God we will naturally follow all the commandments. We shouldn't worry about what we should not be doing rather we should concentrate on all we can do to show our love for God and others.

Matthew 6:25-34 Because God loves us, he cares for us

God doesn't want us to worry because worry can 1. damage your health 2. disrupt your productivity 3. negatively affect the way you treat others 4. reduce your ability to trust God. Instead seek God's will for your life, fill your life with his desires.

Matthew 5:43-47; Luke 6:35 God loves even those who hate him; we are to do the same

Unconditional love: we so often only love those who love us. But God clearly tells us in scripture that we are to love everyone. By loving and praying for our enemies we an overcome evil with good. With the help of the Holy Spirit we can show love to everyone. When you genuinely pray for your enemies the Holy Spirit will turn that prayer into love for that person.

Luke 15 God seeks out even those most alienated/separated from him

Jesus ate with the least of the least, the lowest of the low, the tax collectors.

Matthew 6:24; 10:37God must be our first love

God should be our first priority. In America people are very materialistic, they work for money and money is what they serve, but God calls us to a higher standard! Matthew 10:37 says: "If you love your father or mother more that you love me, you are not worthy of being mine, or if you love your son or daughter more that me, you are not worthy of being mine." Christian commitment may separate friends and loved ones. At home my family and the majority of my friends are not Christians, I could easily let that separate me from God because conflict often arises, but Christ has set me apart so I daily chose to pick up my cross and follow him.

John 14:21; 15:10 We love God when we obey him

Jesus said that his followers show their love for him by obeying him. Love is more than words; it is commitment and conduct. If you love Christ, then prove it by obeying what he says in his word.

John 5:41-44 Those who refuse Jesus don't have God's love

Whose praise do you seek? The religious leaders enjoyed great prestige in Israel, but their stamp fo approbal meant nothing to Jesus. He was concerned about God's approval. This is a good principal for us. If even the highest officials in the world approve our actions and God does not, we should be concerned. But if God approves, even though others don't, we should be content.

John 15:9 Jesus loves us just at God Loves Jesus

John 3:14, 15; 15:13,14 Jesus proved his love for us by dying on the cross so that we could live eternally with him

We are to love each other as Jesus loved us, and he loved us enough to give his life for us. We may not have to die for someone, but there are other ways to practice sacrificial love: listening, helping, encouraging, giving. How can you apply that to someone today?

John 17:21-26 The love between God and Jesus is the perfect example of how we are to love others

Matthew 5:40-42; 10:42 We are to love one another (john 13:34, 35) and demonstrated that love

Love is an attitude that reveals itself in action. You can love like Jesus loved by helping when it's not convenient, by giving when it hurts, by devoting energy to others welfare rather then our own, by absorbing hurts from others without complaining or fighting back. When you do this people will know you are different because this kind of love is not easy!

Luke 16:13 We are not to love the praise of people (John 12:43), selfish recognition (matthew 23:6), earthly belonging (luke 6:19-31), or anything more than God

Praise from others is short-lived, we should be more concerned about God's eternal acceptance than about the temporary approval of other people

The Pharisees had hypocritical attitudes, they knew scripture but did not live by it, we can not let ourselves become like the Pharisees. We are to read and know the scriptures and let it shape and change our lives

Mark 10:21; John 10:11-15 Jesus' love extends to each individual

Jesus showed genuine love for this man knowing that this man might not follow him. Love is able to give tough advice. Christ's love is complete. He loved us enough to die for us and he loves us enough to talk straight to us and give us life-changing challenges.

Matthew 26:31-35 Jesus wants us to love him through the good and through the difficult times

Jesus knew Peter would deny him three times, but he still wanted Peter to love him through both the good and difficult.

John 21:15-17 Jesus wants our love to be genuine

Jesus asked Peter 3 times if he loved him, because three times Peter had denied knowing Jesus. Jesus used two different forms of the word love. The first time love is translated into the greek word agape meaning self-sacrificial love. The second time Jesus focused on Peter alone but still used the greek word agape. The third time Jesus used the greek word phileo meaning affection, or brotherly love, making the question in turn say Are you even my friend? Jesus doesn't settle for superficial answers, and he knows our heart. What would you do if Jesus asked you Do you love me? Do you really love me? Are you even my friend?

If we as a people never experience any of the supernatural but yet everything is dominated by agape love, self-sacrificial love as defined in 1 Corinthians 13 then we will not have missed the boat. It's all about Love!

Redeemed

It wont come as a surprise to anyone when I say that my team hated each other. The past 6 months have been anything but easy for my team. At training camp we stated that we did not want to be with theses people, and what did they do, they put us together but added Birkleigh. That left a really sore spot for most of us but we tried to make the best of it before leaving for the race. Our first blow out in Ireland had me thinking what the hell did I get myself into, I have to spent the rest of the year with these people.

When we arrived in Bulgaria we were all expecting a team change, and I think we all really wanted a team change. But that didn't happen, and while the rest of our squad was crying because they were being moved to new teams, we were all crying because we weren't being moved to new teams.

So we left Bulgaria and headed to Turkey, which I would say was one of the worst months. We were all crammed into one room spending every waking moment with each other. Debrief came and things weren't any better than the past 4 months. Pappy yelled at us, and that opened my eyes to a lot!

Israel was a little better. We went through a lot. Tres wasn't sure where we was supposed to be and was thinking about possibly leaving, he didn't and I'm so glad! However his season of leadership was over and Bethany's season was beginning. It was at the moment that the Lord began to Redeem our team.

Last month in Uganda was the first month there wasn't a blow out between someone. Yes we still had and still have our moments where we want to be alone, but that's normal when you spend 24/7 with 6 other people. Last month was the first month I had to give a sermon and God placed Mark 12:28-34 and Matthew 22:34-40 about the greatest commandment on my heart. To read more about it check out my love blog. But through that God showed me that I don't always Love. Love is not what comes naturally. Love is defined in 1 Corinthians 13; Love is patient, and kind. Our debrief in Kenya was the first debrief where we weren't pissed off at each other and dreading the time. We were complimented on how we are doing. We asked if we could change our team name and we were given the ok to pray into it and we've officially decided that our new team name is Redeemed! Because we are Redeemed both individually and as a whole.

Uganda Top Ten

This is REALLY late...but better late then never...right?!

1. African Children. There is no other way to explain this other than telling you to go watch the African Children Video if you have not already seen it.

2. Alpha Guest House. This month we stayed in a pretty awesome place and lived with some pretty awesome people. The Alpha Guest House is Hostel like housing but more private. The people working there were absolutely amazing. We were able to love on them and they learned a lot about American's and Mzungu's.

3. Bambi's half birthday. We don't get to celebrate Bambi's birthday on the race so we went out on January 23rd, her half birthday, to celebrate. We went to Caf Javvas and had the closest to American food we could.

4. Watoto Evening service. For part of Bambi's half birthday we went to Watoto Church for their Saturday evening service. I felt like I was at home with the worship and awesome message.

5. Preaching. This month most of us had the opportunity to preach. I've decided this is not my favorite thing but God gave me the words and I hope I blessed the church with something they can use.

6. Children's ward. One of our ministry's this month was going to the hospital. We went to the children's ward. I wasn't excited about this. The thought of looking at sick and dieing children just breaks my heart. Walking it didn't make it any easier. We walked in on probably every child crying. We sat down in a room and immediately I started to cry. How was I going to do this? Bambi prayed for me and then prayed that we could show these little children a little love by giving them cookies. Bambi also prayed for Jesus to hold them so they would stop crying and well he did because our God is SO good!!

7. Watoto's Children Center. Our last Friday in Uganda we got to go to 3 of the Watoto children's centers. Henry, a Watoto volunteer, who has a heart for children and youth, took us around. It was a wonderful day. Watoto has space for 1800 orphans, but they do not house that many because they do not have the funds. There are many orphans on the streets of Uganda who they would love to help, but they don't have enough sponsors.

8. Friends. This month I got the series of Friends. I forgot how much I loved that show. It can totally change your mood!

Clean Slate

It's hard to believe that month 7 is almost over! As I think about it the thoughts of coming home overwhelm me. Coming on this trip I knew that my life was going to change. I was going to experience things and see things that were completely out of my comfort zone. Well that is true and it's happened.

What I didn't expect was to feel so distant from home. When I return home I know things are going to be different. It's going to be hard to adjust to life. I'm going to move back in with my parents and not know what to do with my personal space. Relationships are either going to pick up where they left off, take forever to catch up on, or cease to exist. I'm not excited about the third but it's only the reality of being gone for a year. I've done my fair share of sending messages to people and asking how they are doing and what new is going on in their lives and to those that have responded it means the world to me! But I've come to the realization as hard as it's been to realize that things wont be the same when I get home. I've always carried my heart on my sleeve and for that I've had my heart hurt a lot but realizing that things wont be the same is helping me get a head start on all the relationships that will probably cease to exist when I get home.

This blog isn't to come as a shock or to hurt anyone's feelings. If I've done that to you I'm truly sorry. I'm just realizing that life will not be the same when I get home. This is the beginning of something new, a clean slate.

Support Update...Long Over Due

Hello to my wonderful supporters! I'm so thankful for your continual support financially and prayerfully. I wanted to update everyone and tell you that by the end of next month I will be fully funded! So for that I'm extremely grateful!

For me I have a hard time asking for money but my team has said that I should take that step of faith so I'm doing it! An Orphan Who Needs Your Help

Imagine

You're all alone. Your mother has died. Your father has died. Your relatives can't take you in. You have no home. You have no job because you haven't finished school. You have no money to your name because family members have taken it all. You turn 23 today.

Imagine

If you trusted Jesus in the midst of everything and he provided miraculously. He gave you people to take care of you, and a family to take you in as their own. You get a place to stay and finances to go to school. You can pursue a career as a doctor and have a family of your own someday.

Imagine

Not being bitter, angry and cynical but instead forgiving, full of joy and hope. You believe the Jesus of the Bible and that He cares for you more than you know. Your circumstances don't determine His love for you. He's always loved you and you love Him back.

Imagine

You're not just another orphan. Just another number to society or drop in the bucket. You have a name. You have a story. You have a struggle and you have a dream. You are Benard Kwoba, and you're a child of God. He tells you that He's a father to the fatherless and will never forsake you. You want this Jesus that carries your burdens, heals your wounds and sets you free. You are no longer an orphan, nameless, without hope or a future. You are adopted into the family of God and your life matters. You matter, and your God's masterpiece.

In Matthew chapter 25 v. 35-36 where Jesus says, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." To our team this month, Benard is the stranger, the one in need and the orphan to look after. We want to help him go to school this next term. We're asking anyone to contribute anything they can. He's such a bright, ambitious and gentle young man and we have the opportunity to bless him.

God is showing us what true religion is, "Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." (James 1: 27). Please join us in prayer for his life, that God would use us as a miracle in it.

Details:

In order for this to take place, we are trusting in God and His faithfulness, and you as His stewards. We are a team of seven, and have taken on Benard as our child. We feel God has called us to provide for him over these next two years. If we divide the needs between our team members, it requires that each of us raise $90. This amount will provide Benard with tuition for the next two terms, a home to live in, a bed to sleep on, utensils to eat with, uniforms to wear, books to study, and daily meals. This is such a small cost when many of us look at our lives back home. To live off of $630 for two years, how can we not be there to help him. We trust that God will provide these means, and that your heart will be opened as ours was. We are leaving Kitale in 8 days, and are praying endlessly that this can be pulled off. We will be buying uniforms and books this Friday (2/19/10), and if all goes as we hope, we will be going with Benard next week (2/22/10) to sign off on the home. When we leave Kenya, Team Mosiac will officially be the appointed guardian of Benard Kwoba. So please, would you step out in faith with us as we serve this world as He has called.

African Children

I want to start by saying sorry I haven't blogged in awhile! Mosaic is currently in Kampala, Uganada, working with Victory Outreach Church. Kampala is a VERY busy city and I've come to the conclusion that as much as I didn't want to be in the bush I'm so ready for it! The busyness of the city is too much for me! And i thought DC was bad!

Our ministries have varied. We've done Hospital visits to the children's ward at Mulago Hospital, we've gone door to door evangelizing to the locals, and we've spent time loving on children. Through all of this I've realized that God has given me a love for children, it does help that African children are amused by Muzungu's (white people) and just the littlest smile or wave gives most of them a HUGE smile. There are the few that are terrified by us, but there have only been a few.

This past Sunday Mosaic was split into groups to go to different churches. I was with Tres at Victory Outreach. Tres gave an amazing sermon and we got to spend a lot of time together with some amazing people but God taught me something on Sunday and broke my heart for three little boys. We arrived at church around 10:30am and shortly after these boys arrived; Owen, Alaf, and Ebra. They stayed for all of service, which ended around 2:30. I was starving so I pulled out my Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich that I had brought with me and ate half of it. We went to lunch about 20 min later and the boys followed us. I figured when we started eating they would leave, but no they stayed and played right outside the door until we were done. They followed us back to the church at which time Tres immediately laid on a bench a passed out. Pastor then told me that I needed to lay and rest and sent the boys away. I don't nap much and especially not when it's hot and I'm laying on a very tiny and hard bench, but I did as Pastor wanted. The boys returned about 20 min later in different clothes. Everyone was asleep but me. I spent several minutes just watching them. Eventually I had them come sit near me. Owen and Alaf were being typical boys and hitting each other. I quickly got them to stop and we just sat there. Alaf laid down on the bench and Ebra came and sat beside me where he eventually laid his head on my lap. It was during the quiet that the Lord started to speak to me. These boys had been with me all day minus the few minutes when they had left and changed. Had they had anything to eat? I didn't know and because we couldn't speak the same language I couldn't ask. My heart began to ache as I thought about the fact that these boys, God's precious children had been around all day and most likely not eaten. So I took out the second half of my Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich and split it three ways, giving them each a little. It wasn't a lot, but it was all I had. Alaf eventually got up and moved to a different bench and fell asleep. Owen picked a scab off of his arm and instead of being grossed out because of the blood I began thinking what can I do to help him. I had some toilet paper in my bag so I gave him some. Then I thought about the fact that he probably should clean it with something so I gave him some more but this time wet and the look on his face could have broken my heart into pieces. Just this little thing brought a warm look over his face. They became my little children. The clung to me and didn't want to share me during the crusade, which was hard because there were so many children and I wanted to play with them all, BUT today God had placed these boys in my hands to be loved because He loves them.

God has definitely taught me how to love through these children, and though I don't have much to give physically, I can give them love like they've never experienced. I'm excited to return to Victory Outreach Church on Sunday so I can love on them some more! I'm learning that my passion and love for children, no matter what age, is from God and when He is your guide you can do things you never thought possible!

When I get enough internet connection I have a video to show you just how much these kids can steal your heart away! As well as the pictures that were supposed to be part of this blog but will not upload.

I want to say Thank You to all my supporters, without you I would be where I am today! Through your prayers and financial support God has taught me a lot about Who I Am. My 100% goal is slowly approaching and I want to let everyone know where I am in my financial support. By February 1st I am supposed to have raised all $13,800. Who Am I?

It's Saturday January 9 2010 and I've been in Africa for over a week, and I feel like the world race has finally started. That past 5 months have been nothing compared to being in Africa. We've been doing ministry for 4 days, today is day 5 and I'm already exhausted. Coming off a month where I felt completely dry and empty to a month where I'm pouring out ALL the time has been hard. I'm feeling empty because I can't get enough time to fill up all that I'm pouring out. As a team we're not us to being busy all the time, other than Ireland our ministry has been very little with a lot of room for personal growth and time with Jesus. I'm now regretting the fact that I didn't take advantage of that time!

I'm almost half-way through and to be completely honest I have no clue Who I am anymore. I've been broken and molded and I'm now trying to figuring out Who I Am. One of my favorite songs is Who Am I by Casting Crowns:

One thing I know is that I am the Lords, my identity is found in Him, and my past does not define Who I Am. I was given a bookmark around the beginning of the trip that I kind of just put in the pile of letters and things but recently I've been drawing to it so that Satan does not get a hold of me. Israel Week 3

So to keep up with the theme of the past 2 weeks I thought I'd stick with the lame title. This week hasn't been much different from the other 2 weeks. This week I got to go into Jerusalem for a day trip. It was much like going to Galilee, very overwhelming.

I don't really have much to write about this week. And I know that isn't easy or what you probably want to be reading, but this week has been a very difficult week for me. This week I'm realizing that my journal is going to become my best friend, my escape. I still don't use it for the best of my advantage, but this week I've been dealing with some things, and trying to work through not wanting to be here anymore.

Loneliness has overwhelmed me this week. How do I feel lonely when there are 6 other people I live with 24/7? I don't really know, but I think I just really miss people knowing and getting me! I miss being able to escape and be alone. The other night I escaped to my own space by creating a hideout in my upper bunk. It's dark, and a place for me to be completely alone.

So sorry I don't have much to say, I'm trying to work through the thoughts in my head about why I don't want to be here anymore. So I promise my next blog there will be more.

This much I can say...our technology ban is lifted 5pm Christmas Eve through Christmas day. So you can count on communication sometime!

Oh I get to go to Egypt!! We leave Arad on the 28th (late in the evening) and take an overnight bus to Cairo where we will get a tour of the Pyramids and a Tour of the archeological museum! Then we fly out of Egypt for the Nairobi airport.

Lots of prayers needed for me as I deal with all the things going on in my head! Love you call and talk to you in a few days!

Israel Week 2

Sorry for the lame title yet again this week! But my mind just cannot come up with anything creative.

So it's that time of the week again, blog day, and you'd think I'd be more excited but I hate being forced to sit down and write. I could just skip and not write a blog, but that would leave all of you; my family, friends and supports hanging, and I just couldn't do that to you!

This week seemed to be a little more difficult for me. For the majority of the week I was fighting off a sickness, what I believe might have been the starts of mono again. I spent a couple days in bed and then thought I was feeling better on Friday so decided to go out and do some things, by the time it was time to leave for Shabbat my body was exhausted. The worst part is that I had to walk to where we have Shabbat. What normally takes about 30 min to get there took Bambi, Ralph and myself about 45 min because I was so exhausted. When we got there I was ready to collapse. I sat on the couch in a daze for the first part. After we ate I curled up into a ball and practically fell asleep. I was told I could leave and what originally I thought would be a drive back ended up being an hour walk.

Saturday my team left me in bed and went to Masada and EnGedi. I'm really sad that I missed out on this experience because I was really looking forward to it. Ashley Weaver, Lyndasy, and Martha came into my room to pray for me an hour or so after my team left. Let me just tell you that it was a powerful prayer and there was so serious Holy Spirit in my room! After they finished praying my side was no longer hurting. They left me laying in bed to rest. After awhile of laying there and no longer feeling tired and then realizing my throat didn't hurt I decided to get up! And then it hit me Jesus Healed Me!! That's two healings for team Mosaic in two weeks!

We went to the Holocaust Museum on Sunday and that was a pretty draining day. We left around 8am to head to Jerusalem. We got stopped at a check point, where one of our bus drivers, the driver who was driving me, got arrested. We waited for almost 3 hours and then a new driver came. We got to another check point where we were redirected again. We ended up driving through Bethlehem, which we were told NOT to do because it is not safe, but that's the only way our drivers could get through. For those of you that don't know Bethlehem is in Palestine territory. We finally made it to the Museum at about the time we were supposed to be leaving the Museum to go see more of Jerusalem. So what was going to be a half day tour of the Museum and a few hours in Jerusalem ended up being an hour to tour the Museum and then returning home.

So that was the happenings of this week. I know it's not much but it's better than nothing! I want to leave you with something I've read a couple times, it's from a bookmark that Liz has from her church at home.

Israel Week 1

Its Sunday December 6^th, I'm sitting in Arad, Israel; in the desert. We've been given time from our technology ban to blog. How to do I write about the past week and all that I've experienced in one blog...I don't know but this is what you get.

As most of you know during our last morning of debrief we found out that we were on a technology ban. Why you may ask? Well I'll admit I questioned it a lot because I didn't feel called to it. But in the long run it's forced me to read my bible more and just be in God's presence. As I sit here now and think about the fact that at home my family is getting ready to celebrate my grandparents 70th wedding anniversary I think that a year ago I didn't think that I wouldn't be with them and that leaves me in a place of complete brokenness. Would it help if I could just call? Yes, but I can't so that makes me depend on God even more! For all those wondering, Christmas will be an exception. We will be given 2 hours where we can contact family but I do not know what time.

So now for all the events of this first week: we arrived in Israel and were immediately bussed 2 hours to Arad. An hour into our ride the bus hit a donkey. Welcome to Israel! Day two we went to Jerusalem and hiked in Hezekiah's tunnel. Our ministry started on Monday. We do ministry Sunday through Thursday. This past week we had 3 lessons taught by our amazing contact. For the well-being of our contact and ministry I can't talk about it. Friday we got to experience a traditional Shabbat meal and I really enjoyed it.

Oh I forgot to mention that our contact's house overlooks the desert, and I've gotten the chance to see camels, donkeys, and sheep. It's pretty awesome if I must say so myself!

Yesterday was by far my favorite day, our goal is to make Saturday's our touring days. I need to start by saying that all these sightseeing events are personal money and because I don't have the kind of money to do sightseeing I didn't think I'd be going. Both Bambi and Lyndsay are in the same place. WELL God is awesome and he worked it out so that me, Lyndsay and Bambi wouldn't be left out!!

Ok so we left our place around 7am and headed to Galilee. We drove through the desert and on the coast of the Dead Sea. Our first stop was at the Jordan River where John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Birkleigh and Bambi decided to get baptized and it was beautiful!

Our next stop was at the church of multiplication where the stone that Jesus multiplied the bread and the fish is claimed to be, and because of this they build a church around it.

Next up was Capernaum. Of the whole day I think this blew me away the most. We got to see ruins of the old city, yes actual stones from Jesus' time. HOLY CRAP! We stood in the Synagogue where Jesus taught and I put my feet in the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus walked on water! Yeah it's overwhelming and I'm not even sure I've completely processed the fact that I walked in the same places that Jesus walked. We had lunch outside on the shore of the Sea of Galilee where two mean were fishing. We got to see the Mount of Beatitudes; where Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount. Yeah still not over that fact that I walked in the same places that Jesus walked!!

Out last stop was in Nazareth where Jesus was conceived and born. We visited the church of Annunciation the site where they believe that Mary lived and where the angel appeared to her telling her that she would give birth to Jesus.

So to sum it all up this week has been pretty awesome. I've learned a lot, seen a lot, and God has provided for me in so many ways. I love and miss everyone tons!

I do not have a support update because of our technology ban but I do know that I'm still in need. Last time I checked I needed a little less than $2000 to reach my goal.

Turkey Day

This year was by far one of my best Thanksgiving Day's ever, I got to celebrate Turkey Day in Turkey. I wish I had time to upload photos but this will probably one of the last times I'm online until January. Tomorrow when I get on the plane to head to Israel all technology is being banned. That means no computers (except once a week when all we can do is write a blog), no ipods, no internet, and no phones.

When I came on the race I had given up all expectations of having a real thanksgiving, but we were blessed with a church to use to cook a thanksgiving meal. Our thanksgiving consisted of Chicken (turkey was too expensive for our budget), carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, and apple cobbler! We actually had a meal! Jesus sure does love me a lot!

Not only did I have a real meal on Thanksgiving but I got baptized on Thanksgiving! I got baptized on Turkey Day in Turkey, which by the way is a 99% Muslim Country! Jesus loves me a whole heck of a lot!

Ok to back to the technology ban, I know this is not easy for many, and I'll be honest it is not easy for me either. But I know God is going to use this for lots of good and there will be lots of growth! I know the thoughts and feelings you all are having, and they are valid and you have every right to have those feelings, but please know that just because I won't be online doesn't mean I won't be thinking of you, praying for you, and missing you! I LOVE YOU ALL and will talk to you hopefully when I get off the plane and land in Africa, God willing we have internet!

It's been awhile since i've actually sat down to write a blog. For that I apologize! But it seems that anytime I sit down to write I can't wrap myself around all the things going on in my head to write anything. My Head is All Jumbled Up!

This is my attempt to try and give you a little glimpse into the craziness inside my head. Last month in Hungary was overwhelming. I spent a lot of time with some wonderful and amazing people. Our teams had been switched up a little to help build our squad community and because of that I was experiencing tons of freedom. I was experience so much freedom that I began calling myself a freedom whore because we often sat down as a team at night and by the end of it I was crying because I realized I was so full of pride. I was constantly being called out, and I owe a huge thank you to Ashley Higgins for having enough courage to call me out on my crap.

So I'm sitting here in the lobby of my hostel in Turkey and it's hard to imagine the person I was at the beginning of Hungary. This month we've had a lot, and I mean A LOT, of down time. I've spent a lot of that time digging into God's Word.

For years I've said that the Bible is one of my favorite books but recently I've been really convicted about that! How can I say that this book is one of my favorites when I have NEVER read the whole thing. I don't have any other books that I call my favorites that I haven't actually read ALL of. So in Hungary I began reading the Bible.

Before coming on the race I had a goal of reading the WHOLE Bible before returning home. Well the race started and I hardly ever opened my Bible. I spent most of my time in Ireland saying I wanted to read the Bible and a few times I made attempts at reading, but like before it didn't last very long. The same thing happened in Moldova. BUT something changed in Hungary and God changed my heart. It wasn't till the end of the month when i finally had a designated reading program, and I'm excited to know that my goal to read the WHOLE Bible before returning home will happen!

Since stepping out in Faith and pressing into God I've learned a lot. Over the next couple days my goal is to get my thoughts and the things I've learned out in words for all to understand. I'm not the same person who left in August and I'm not the same person from a month ago. God has done some awesome things in me and with the help of the Holy Spirit I will be able to share those things with you in coming blogs.

We've experienced a lot this year since we've been together. This series is about God. We were given no details just the titles. God and me, God and the World, and God and the Church. Hungary Top Ten

Movie Night. Bambi and I shared a tent for the first half of the month and on our third night we turned our tent into a movie theater and watched Step Up. We also attempted to watch Step Up 2 a couple days later but we both fell asleep.

Team Date Night. Goodness Gracious planned a date night for Beautiful Feet. I really loved being able to share this time and have a little fun with my team. We had love letters that a member from the other team wrote us, and we as a team had written an encouragement letter to each member of our team.

Youth Conference. We attended a conference the 16 and 17th at the Baptist Church. I'd say there were at least 100 youth there! These kids place a fire in my heart to see the youth at home rise up. These kids don't care what others say about them they just love Jesus!

Hungarian Thanksgiving. For the second month in a row we got to experience Thanksgiving. In Hungary just like in Moldova Thanksgiving is to give thanks for the Harvest. The food reminded me a lot of home.

Girls Night Out. The 5 of us girls that stayed in Szekefeherevar went out for dinner. We enjoyed some pizza and girl talk. After dinner we got some dessert and Birkleigh introduced me to gummy rats...they are very delicious :)

Bowling. We went Bowling with some of the youth and young adults we met from the second church we contacted. We played Americans vs Hungarians and afterwards we went back to the church and they had made us, Goulash, a Hungarian meal. These are the people that I will never forget, a piece of my heart was left in Hungary when I left them!

Hungarian Hospitality. The mind set between Americans and Hungarians is so different. America would be such a friendly place if we gave and served the way Hungarians do. Please read my Hungary vs Virginia blog to understand more of what I mean.

Testimonies. This month is the first country since being gone that I've shared my testimony. By being willing to share the Lord has opened doors to talk to many people about my life. When your willing to be honest and vulnerable with people you don't even know God uses you in mighty ways.

Support. At the beginning of the month I was really concerned about how my trip was going to get paid for because my account had been at a stand still for the most part since I left the US. But PRAISE GOD my Oct 31 deadline was met by the middle of the month, and my Feb 1st goal is slowly being reached. If you still want to give but haven't been able to it's not too late!

My Birthday! I've decided that World Race birthdays are some of the best! I got to celebrate two days in a row...I know not normal. And then in Sofia we celebrate all of September and October birthdays! I have to say that my Golden birthday was a hit, and probably one of the best birthdays ever! For dinner Ralphie and I celebrated our birthdays together at T.G.I.Fridays.

Knitting Natural. I FINALLY learned to knit. I so badly wanted to learn in Ireland. I wanted to learn so badly in Ireland that I went out and bought needles and yarn. I finally asked Ashley to teach me and who knew that I'm actually pretty good!! It's become my new habit, hopefully that's not a bad thing!

Coffee. This is the first month where I decided to cave in and try some coffee and surprise surprise I actually liked it!

Day alone with Birkleigh and Bethany. The three of us got left behind when we were in Pecs. There was a mis-communication about getting to town. We made the best of it by having a photo shoot, relaxing, eating breakfast for dinner, and having a movie night. I have videos of the whole day that will be posted soon.

I dyed my hair. I was excited to find hair dye that wasn't very expensive and found the closest color to what I normally get. It ended up being a bit darker but I love it!

Mexican. The couple we stayed with in Pecs had some hidden taco seasoning from America so we blessed them by making taco's. It was SO good.

Change

So I've known change was coming, and most people know how much I hate change, but God had given me a peace about accepting this change because I needed it if I was going to continue growing. We got multiple changes today. First our squad leaders were raised up this morning and I'm glad that they are our leaders. Congrats Mike, Denise, and Tamica. Next team leaders were announced, 3 old leaders remained and 3 new leaders were raised up. Then teams were announced. The whole time I was expecting my name to be called, but change did not happen. Beautiful Feet is the only team that is still together. I'm sitting here trying to figure out why. God had spoken to me so much this month about how change was coming for me and that I needed it to continue growing and I'm still on the same team. So where does that leave me, I'm confused, frustrated and really upset. I love my team members and while I'm glad I didn't have to experience change, I'm more upset that change didn't happen. It's hard to know that God was telling me I needed change if I was going to grow anymore and then to be on the same team is really hard. I experienced more growth this month being with different people then the two months I was with Beautiful Feet. I know Brian, Stacy, and Catlin seek God in prayer on every decision, so why would God tell me one thing but not tell them the same. Am I not really hearing God? I don't know, and I'm at a lose for words because I'm so confused. But Beautiful Feet is still together and after our 4 hours of silence I guess we'll find out how everyone is doing.

So after our 4 hours of silence I was still pretty angry with God, so I went to Brian, Stacy, and Catlin to talk to them to figure things out. I wanted to understand why I would have to prepare for change and then not experience it. Stacy brought to light that I could have heard that change was going to have to happen for more growth, but it didn't mean change of people, just change of team dynamics. Brian also explained that God was probably testing my obedience like he tested Abraham. Was I willing to be obedient to God? Because I decided that I was going to be ok with change, God decided he wasn't going to wreck my world and take away my team. God was ok with me being angry at Him because he knew that I would accept His love by not taking away my team. I was challenged by Brian, Stacy, and Catlin to tell my team all I had learned and encourage them into a new team name. Sharing what happened with my team was good for me! As a team we decided that we definitely needed a team name change because we did not want to associate with the old but with the new!

So with further ado I introduce you to Mosaic...a bunch a broken people but when put together are beautiful!

Hungary vs Virginia

This was written a little over a week ago:

I can even take this title a step forward and say Hungary vs America. Since being in Hungary it's opened up my eyes to how much we take for granted in America. When I compare this town to those towns I'm in on a regular basis at home it's very obvious the difference! In America "Christians" take for granted what it's like to worship and love God without any persicussion. The first youth group we went to was when I began to realize just how much we take for granted. The kids in this youth group talked to us about the differences about how we look at Christianity and how they look at Christianity. Matthew 3:8 says: Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. The youth here live that out daily. The first night Bambi got to talk to one of the youth, who I eventually got to talk to as well. The conversation started when they noticed a few of us had tattoos. The conversation Bambi had with this kid was absolutely amazing! He said that he doesn't wear any jewelry or Christian t-shirts because he doesn't want those things be how people notice that he's a Christian, but instead he wants the way he lives to be how they know he's a Christian. WOW!! If all Christians believed that and lived that way things would be a lot different. We shouldn't have to wear a cross around our neck, have the fish on our cars, or wear Christian shirts for people to know that we are Christians, but our love for others should be how they know that we are Christians. They should desire to have what we have because we seem so different!

My eyes have also been opened to just how much people give here!! They don't give because they have to, but because they want to. How much of a difference would it be to give because we want to not because we feel we have to! Since being in the churches we've been overwhelmed with the amount that they want to give. Do our laundry, provide most of our meals , provide housing for free, and when we go out to do things just to spend time with the amazing people here, they give by paying for us. How much of a difference would it be in America if we were so willing to provide meals to those who don't have meals, open up our houses or churches for complete strangers to come in and live and then spend almost every waking moment with them. I'm so overwhelmed with how awesome these people are. I love the time that we've gotten to spend with these awesome people. They have taken off work to spend time with us. These people are Christ and they don't even realize it! I wish I could make you realize how awesome these people are, but what I want to say words can't describe.

My heart is heavy knowing that I will have to leave these people in just a few days. These people are my brothers and sisters and it's so awesome how God planned every relationship before we were even born. I'm sure when I leave there will be tears, but I know that God is going to use these people to bring Kingdom to Hungary. These people will be in my heart forever!

Update/Follow Up

So I want to start by asking for forgiveness from anyone who read my blog You call yourself a Christian. That was not written to make anyone feel like I was judging them but to stir a passion to live the way we've been called to live, to repent and turn from our sinful nature. It was more for myself than directed at anyone, but if it got you thinking about your life then I hope you're walking in that conviction that the Holy Spirit has given you!

I'm also writing this to remind everyone that in a few days I will be heading to Turkey. I have no other information and will not be giving out any information. Turkey and Israel are closed countries, communication is going to be limited and blogs will probably not be posted. Know that you are on my mind and in my prayers, and please be praying for me and my team!

Support status. Praise the Lord I've reached my October 31st goal. My next goal is February 1st and I need to raise about $2,416 by that time.

What I'm about to say may not be easy for those of you that call yourself a "Christian." The last 72 hours have been very powerful here in Hungary. The 5 of us girls had been given a holy righteous anger (thanks Ashley for your awesome words) about our brothers and sisters who walk daily in unrepentence of the things that have blocked Christ from working in our lives. We so often call ourselves "Christians" but don't act like Christians. A Christian is: one who professes belief in and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. Christians are called to a higher standard. It's not enough to have prayed a prayer one time. It's the life style you live. When you pray that prayer and truly believe you have been baptized into the family of God through the Holy Spirit. BUT it doesn't end there! You are then to be baptized in water, to rid yourself of your old life! Following water baptism you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit by Jesus. Without the Holy Spirit you are not a true person in Christ, because the Holy Spirit helps us think, desire, and feel the things of God.

If you're sitting there thinking that she's not talking to me, then it's time to check yourself. Many "Christians" think they are good enough because they compare themselves to other "Christians," but Christ has called us to compare ourselves not to others but to scripture.

So how do you really live a life as a Christian? OPEN UP THE BIBLE and figure it out!! It is very clear!

I could make it easy for you and post the things that the Lord has shown me, but I think it's really important for you to go search it and realize it on your own. It's time to RISE UP and be the generation that brings God's glory back. Be the generation that's on Fire for God. We should be so on FIRE that the only thing that can and will cool us is the wind of the Holy Spirit. This world is so full of lies from the enemy and we, the church body, have allowed him into our body. It's time that we worship God in spirit and truth!! The Holy Spirit should be your best friend! I've learned so much about the Holy Spirit, who he is, who he can be and the gifts that he gives. I want my generation and the generations to come to know the whole truth!! God has placed a FIRE on my heart for my generation! So Let's RISE UP and be the change!

Birthday Wishes

With my Golden Birthday 12 days away I thought I'd make a wish list of things that I'd like for my birthday. So here goes. Since being on the world race I've grown and learned so much about myself. As much as my Human self wants to ask for the worldly things such as personal money or itunes credit, those worldly things no longer matter to me. What matters now is the KINGDOM. So if you really want to get me something for my birthday please DO NOT satisfy my human self, instead please support me financially so that I can finish the race I have been called to.

Financial Update:

I need $75.53 by Halloween.

I need an additional $2800 by Feb 1st.

This blog might be very shocking to many, so prepare yourself.

Sex, it's a topic that we don't talk about, but it's time to stop thinking that way! The world is covered in sexual immorality and I personally, as well as the rest of the girls I'm with this month are tired of living in it. We all have it in us, some it's very evident but others it's hidden deep within.

For me sexual immorality caused me to believe lies about myself. At the age of 16 I lost my virginity, however, I didn't want it, but because I felt that things would change in my relationship I didn't say I didn't want it, so it happened and it caused me pain both physically and emotionally. I didn't accept this for what it was and because of that it caused problems in the rest of the relationships I've had. It's lead me to lie to others about my virginity, it's lead me to allow being used by giving in to one night stands, it's lead me to believe that I wasn't worthy of love and that they only way I could gain love was to give into more sexual immorality, and it's lead me to use my looks to get attention but at the same time when I didn't get attention would think that I wasn't beautiful.

I'm tired of Christians saying they are free and not walking in it or not really letting go of the bondage that they are trapped in. Christ has called us to a higher standard! Now we have to chose to walk in it. This world is covered in sexual sin and if we want the younger generations and our friends that don't know Christ to believe that sexual immorality is wrong then we as Christians need to be leaders in that!

I've spent today sending e-mails to those that had something to do with this and I've asked for forgiveness from them for the things I did against them but most of all I want them to know that the things they did to me have been forgiven! For those reading this who I may have cause to stumble by the things I wore please forgive me. Today lead me to much more freedom and awareness of who I am in Christ. I Am Spoken For!

Top Ten Moldova

So i know this is WAY over due but here it is:

Orphanages. The first day in Moldova, Hollis, Nicole, and myself went with Andre, Larissa, and Erik to look at a couple of orphanages. God has definitely given me a passion for orphans, it was such a blessing just to be able to see the needs of these orphanages so that I can be praying for them.

Moldovan Thanksgiving. We got to experience a traditional Moldovan Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving in Moldova is to celebrate that the Harvest is here and to give thanks to God for providing the Harvest. When I think about the concept it is very encouraging because even though Moldova has been on an 18 month drought the Lord has still provided a harvest.

Worship at the lake. We had a worship service at the lake one night. It was awesome to worship while watching the sunset. God's creation is so beautiful and I was in such awe at the beauty around me. We also got to experience a herd of cows on their daily walk before we began worship.

3 hour hike. Andre has been wanting to hike from his home to the rehab center for awhile, but has never had anyone willing to do it with him. This was by far one of my favorites because not only did it bless him, but it was a blessing to bless Andre!

Cliff jumping in Ukraine. Once we finally made it to the Rehab center, Andre took us for another 45min hike through the Ukraine border, where we got stopped by the military, to jump off a cliff into FREEZING cold water. It was definitely an adventure I will never forget!

Creation of tattoo # 3. We had a lot of free time in Moldova. In Ireland I had asked Caitlin to create a tattoo for me based off of my necklace. In Moldova so not only created it but took the time to draw it on me with Sharpies.

Spa Day. We planned a Spa day to bless Larissa. It was pretty fun to be girly for awhile.

Chopping down corn stalks. Part of our ministry for Andre was cutting down the corn stalks so that the corn could be shucked. This was more fun than I expected...we turned it into a competition, I ended up with a blister on my hand and really itchy.

Sleeper Trains. We rode many trains this month. It was the beginning of many train rides. The first train was very hot and nothing like I expected and I did not sleep very well. But I will never forget my first train experience!
